• We have been sorting waste in our workshops since 2002, while also striving to minimize landfill waste.
• We have an electric car for journeys between the two sites at Manosque: the factory and the European logistics platform.
• Our office furniture is 98% recyclable.

 

Our most recent actions

2008 was the year in which we began the campaign to save energy:

• Raising awareness among employees

  In 2008 : An energy-awareness sticker has been designed, and copies of it have been put up in the L'OCCITANE offices (Paris, Manosque and Geneva) and in the factory. To keep track of energy use among employees, we carry out energy audits in the offices every month, to make sure that guidelines are being followed while also making sure staff are aware of eco-friendly steps they could be taking.

• Energy-efficient equipment

  Restraint:
  In 2008: L’OCCITANE is now equipped with 100% energy-saving light bulbs, and has motion detectors in all communal areas in the site at Manosque (corridor, toilet facilities and cloakrooms). The candle wax melting machine is now switched off at the weekend, which allows us to save 10,000 kW of energy per year.

• Renewable energy has come to the factory store, with the first solar panels at L'OCCITANE, to help power the water heater.

 

2008 was also the year in which we focused on better waste management:

• Raising awareness among employees

  L’OCCITANE provides clear signage to explain the sorting system on the sorting units in the factory and workshops. On a lighter note, an exhibition was held for a week, in January 2009, on the subject of waste sorting and its objectives, including an interactive game for employees. A visit to the Manosque sorting center was also organized for the workforce at Manosque.

• More waste sorting in workshops.
• A search for more ecological packaging materials: instead of foam, which we had the habit of using, there are greener solutions such as crinkled paper. We are already using this for our Internet orders.

 

What are the perspectives?

• The electricity produced by installing photovoltaic solar panels on the next factory extension should cover 70% of the building's electricity consumption.
• Water is also a precious resource, and we must look into ways of using it sparingly in the factory, such as when cleaning machinery.
• Several studies are underway to find ways to save energy on the site (energy balance, insulation, outside lighting, etc. ).
