Transport
We now have a very widespread distribution network, with over 1,000 stores in over 70 countries. For many years, for both economic and ecological reasons, we have kept our use of air transport to a minimum.
Our most recent actions
This year, we decided that:
- When choosing our logistics suppliers, we would take into account their Sustainable Development policy, IN ADDITION TO our usual criteria. This means looking at the level of equipment of their fleet and their commitment to rapidly implementing the increasingly strict European directives. This led us to change our service provider for the United Kingdom.
- We should strive to fill our boxes more efficiently.
What are the perspectives?
- More full boxes = fewer packing materials = better utilisation of transport = less CO2 emissions: QED.
- Finally, we are also looking into the possibility of developing intermodal transport, with combined rail and road transport to supply our stores in Paris. This is a real – if small – revolution that may well be underway in 2010!
